Rutledge Johnson '05James Rutledge Johnson, 35, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Jennifer “Jenny” Archer Johnson died Wednesday, January 3 after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Greenville, SC on July 29, 1982 to Dr. and Mrs. J. Greg Johnson (Elise).

A graduate of Christ Church Episcopal School, Rutledge received 12 varsity letters, was All-Conference in football and baseball and was All-State in wrestling. He then went on to graduate from Davidson College where he played football and obtained a B.A. degree.

After coaching at Porter Gaud, he received his Juris Doctorate degree from Charleston School of Law. Then working in Columbia for the Attorney General’s Office, Rutledge became a Deputy Assistant Attorney General. Most recently he was an associate of the Bell Legal Group of Georgetown and an Adjunct Professor at the Charleston School of Law.

Forever a Davidson Wildcat, Rutledge Johnson is survived by his wife, parents, two sisters: Susan and Anna Johnson, and beloved dog, Coach.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in First Baptist Church of Charleston, 48 Meeting Street at 4:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

An additional memorial service will be held later in North Litchfield, SC.
