H. Hooper Alexander ’52

H. Hooper Alexander ’52 of Charlotte died June 4, 2005. An Army Airborne officer from 1952 to 1954, he served in South Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He was owner of Alexander Planning Associates of Charlotte. His community service included memberships and leadership roles in The Opera Company of North Carolina, The Charlotte Opera Association, the Charlotte chapter of the American Society of CLU, ChFC, the Charlotte Estate Planning Council, and the Charlotte Association of Life Underwriters. He also was active in the Heart Fund, United Community Services, Boy Scouts, and YMCA, and as a trustee of the Charlotte Firefighters’ Retirement System. He was an elder in Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Nelson Alexander, 4725 Harwicke Rd., Charlotte, N.C. 28211; children, Hooper ‘Lex’ Alexander IV ’82 of Greensboro, Frank Alexander of Holly Springs, Hugh Alexander of Charlotte, and Jane Alexander of Raleigh; stepchildren Kathy Grubbs of Charlotte, Doug Svenson of Brunswick, Ga., Erik Svenson of Saluda and John Svenson of Charleston, S.C.; sisters, Madge Vining of Columbia, Conn., Jessie Busby of Fairfax, Va., and Amelia Ecker of Tacoma, Wash.; ten grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
