Peter Francis Clark, 59, of Harwich, Mass. passed away Jan 1, 2014 after a 14 month battle with colon cancer.He was born on Feb 24, 1954 in Bronxville, N.Y. to the late Francis P.Clark and Lenore M. Clark, of Harwich, MA. Peter graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa from Davidson College in1976 and received his Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University in1980.
Peter was an accomplished lawyer, most recently serving as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Continental Energy Systems, LLC in Port Huron, MI with operations in Michigan, Alaska and New Mexico. He was General Counsel and Secretary for Conectiv in Wilmington, DE (formerly Delmarva Power) holding various positions from 1985 to 2002.
He was admitted to the bar in Michigan, Delaware and Virginia. He was a member of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and on the Legal Committee for the American Gas Association.
Peter is remembered for his love of history, his intellect, sharp wit, infectious laugh, and unwavering devotion to his extended family and friends. He was an active member of the Cape Cod Community supporting Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Family Pantry; Harwich, the College Light Opera; Falmouth the Orpheum, the Snow Library; Orleans and many other charitable organizations. He was a Harwich homeowner and visited and lived in the area for more than 30 years.
An avid cyclist, Peter was known to ride the bike path from Chatham to Orleans daily. He swam, sailed and enjoyed his many friends in the Great Sands Lake community. He passed on his love of the Cape to his niece, nephews and grandnephews teaching them to swim, sail and row on Buck’s Pond.
Peter is survived by his mother, Lenore M. Clark of Harwich; two sisters: Christine (Clark) Morrison of Charlottesville, VA; and Ann (Clark) Tucker and brother-in-law, Stuart Peterson of St. Paul, MN . He is also survived by his niece and god-daughter Megan Tucker, St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH; Christopher and Angela Tucker (Edina, MN), god-son, Patrick Tucker and fiance Laura Sherin (New York City) and Sean and Katelyn Tucker (Virginia Beach, VA) as well as three great-nephews in Edina, MN.
Peter’s family and friends would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Mary McCarthy Hospice House in East Sandwich for their generosity of care, as well as their physical and emotional support during Peter’s stay throughout the holiday season.
A wake will be held Wed, Jan 8 from 5pm to 7 pm at Doane, Beal & Ames, 260 Main Street, West Harwich, MA. A memorial mass will be held Thurs, Jan 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 57 Highland Ave, Chatham, MA .
