Kirk Oglesby ’52

Kirk Oglesby '52Daniel Kirkland Oglesby, Jr, 87, finished his earthly race and entered eternity with his heavenly Father on April 7, 2018, after a brief illness. Born in Gastonia, NC on September 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Bettie and Dan Oglesby. He was a member of St John’s United Methodist Church.

He graduated from Davidson College in 1952 and Duke University in 1954 with degrees in economics and hospital administration. He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Davidson College in 1992.

In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, Bobbie Owen Oglesby, Kirk is survived by his three daughters: Lynn O’Neal (Dan), Kathie Jones, Lee Arsenault (Pete); five grandchildren: Joshua Kirkland O’Neal (Lindsay), Anna O’Neal, Rachel Arsenault Rubenstein (Seth), Matthew Arsenault (Allison), and Abbie Jones; and one great grandchild, Vivian O’Neal. He was predeceased by an infant son and son-in-law, Glenn Jones.

Kirk was thankful for the great privilege of working in the healthcare industry for more than 40 years and his contributions were many. He retired after 30 years as President of AnMed Health. He also served as Chairman of three national healthcare organizations. In 2006, he was inducted into the national healthcare hall of fame.

He enjoyed serving his community through his church, United Way, YMCA, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Anderson Free Clinic, Tri County Technical College, Anderson University and others.

Kirk loved golf, travel, reading, Sudoku and especially spending time with family and friends.

He was a true servant who loved God, his family, and the AnMed community.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624; AnMed Health Foundation, 800 North Fant Street, Anderson, SC 29621; or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
