Kenneth Pitts Maddox, Jr. ’59

Kenneth Pitts Maddox, Jr. passed on to be with our Lord on October 27, 2016 at Well-Spring Retirement Community. He was born on November 23, 1936, to Kenneth and Katherine Maddox. Ken attended Davidson College and graduated from Guilford College.

He worked with the trust department of Nations Bank and with the Richardson Corporation and had his broker’s license in real estate. Ken was a long-time member of Sales and Marketing Association.He later joined the family business started by his grandfather, Pitts Lumber Company.

Upon the death of his father, he took over the ownership and management of College Park Apartments and remained there until his retirement in 2003.

He and his wife are members of Guilford College United Methodist Church.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice, and three sons with his former wife; Kenneth III (Jan) of Greensboro, Ed (Cheryl) of Randleman, and Will (Reed) of Greensboro, granddaughter Mary Beth Maddox, step-children Lacey, Clay and Murphy Holmes, and sister Eloise Holt of Greensboro.

He is also survived by his step-family: David Algire (Nancy) of Brewster, NY, Sherri Beaver (Mike) of Charlotte, and grandsons Officer Adam Beaver of Charleston, SCPD; USCG Petty Officer Olin Algire of Charleston, Hank Algire of Brewster, NY, and John Beaver of Charlotte.

He will be remembered for his smile and laugh and his nickname “Boss Man” at the memory care unit of Well-Spring.

Burial will be private on Tuesday, November 1, followed by a memorial service at the Richardson Auditorium at Well-Spring at 2:00 p.m.

His wife sends her sincere thanks to the staff of memory care who lovingly cared for him. They are an amazing group.
