Robert Alan Johnson ’70

Robert Alan Johnson, of Washington, DC passed away on June 15, 2016 at the age of 68.

Born in Lancaster and raised in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1966 and further educated at Oberlin College and at the University of Michigan. He received his doctorate in Sociology from Michigan in 1979.

As a long-time resident of the DC metropolitan area, he worked as a demographer and statistician and published many research articles in leading academic journals. Son of Cecil and Blanche Johnson (deceased) he is survived by his sister Beth Lloyd, Lincoln Park, N.J. and his beloved friend Valerie Caracelli, Washington, DC.

A funeral service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, Eighth and Waller Streets, Portsmouth, Ohio, on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.

A burial service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, 55 Mary Ann Street, Portsmouth, Ohio on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park and Conservation Biology Institute, https://nationalzoo.si.edu/support/donate and to the Regents of the University of Michigan, Rackham Graduate School, https://leadersandbest.umich.edu/find/#!/scu/rackham .
