David Alton Hardeman ’66

David Alton Hardeman died on Thursday, June 2, 2016. Graveside services conducted by The Rev. Anne Meroney of Saint Andrews Episcopal will be held Sunday, June 5 at 2:00PM at Oaklawn Cemetery, 720 South Camellia Boulevard in Fort Valley.

The family may be contacted at the Meyer home at 500 Valley View Drive, Fort Valley. Dave was the oldest son of Wallis B. Hardeman, Jr. and Kathryn Pitts Hardeman and was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his brother, Joseph R. Hardeman (Jody) and his brother-in-law, Sam A. Meyer, Sr.

He is survived by his loving sister Kay Hardeman Meyer and her two children, Sam A. Meyer, Jr. (Len) and Kathryn F. Meyer, his loving brother Robert V. Hardeman (Bob) and his wife, Frances J. and their children Laura D. Hardeman and Claiborne W. Hardeman and his wife, Whitney; and nephew Scott D. Hardeman and his children Ansley and Jody.

Dave graduated from Fort Valley High School where he had an outstanding record in all activities. In addition to being President of his Senior class and graduating with honors as Salutatorian, he was also Captain of both the football team and the basketball team both of which won Georgia State Championships. He served as Secretary for the state Key Clubs of Georgia and was a recipient of the Governor’s Honors Program.

Dave was a graduate of Davidson College where he was President of his Freshman class and an active member of ATO Fraternity. He received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army following service during the Vietnam era.

Dave leaves family and friends who cherish his memory. His family wishes to express sincere thanks for the fervent, frequent and faithful prayers through the years of the many loyal and loving friends of their beloved brother and uncle.
