William Moss Gill ’72

William GillWilliam “Billy” Gill of Williamsburg, Virginia left this earth and entered the kingdom of heaven on May 17, 2016 surrounded by his wife and family. Billy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a dear friend to countless others. Billy was born in Newport News on September 27, 1950, to Flora Mae Holland and Jesse Weston Gill, Jr. At Ferguson High School, Billy met the love of his life, Patricia Humme. After sharing the stage in school theater, they began a lifelong romance, partnering in marriage, parenthood, and church ministry.

He pastored at two churches. Billy’s greatest passions were spending time with his family, and sharing the love of God with compassion, seeing the potential in each person, seeking to love and forgive as he had been forgiven by the Savior who transformed his life. He devoted his life to the pursuit of God, studying and teaching God’s Word, and leading in worship and prayer meetings.

Billy is survived by his wife Patty; his children and their spouses, Sarah & Michael Kalafian, Jesse & April Gill, Benjamin & Ellen Gill, Sharon & Chris Stewart, Isaac & Megan Gill; 11 grandchildren; his brothers Weston, Steven & Timothy; and his loving in-laws, Bill Humme, and Pam & David Colonna. This verse best describes our beloved Billy: “Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants All around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the LORD.” Psalms 128:1-4
