Rod Daniel III ’64

Rollin Augustus “Rod” Daniel, III, 73 of Chicago, IL and Glen Arbor, MI. Rod passed away in his home in Chicago on April 16, 2016.  He was born and raised in Nashville, TN and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in Economics.

After a tour of duty in Vietnam serving the Army as a Lieutenant, he became interested in television and film and in 1978 moved to Los Angeles and embarked on a 30 plus year career where he directed five feature films, six movies of the week and over a hundred sitcom episodes, proudly directing such talents as Mary Tyler Moore, Dudley Moore, Bob Newhart, Loni Anderson, Charles Grodin, and Michael J. Fox. Rod is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the American Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. 

He is the beloved son of the late Dr. Rollin Augustus, Jr (late Ann nee Kelley) Daniel; loving husband of Martha “Marti” nee Mueller; dearest father of John (Logan) of Berkeley, CA and Lucas (April Starr) of Riverside, IL; cherished grandfather of Ethan; fond brother of Ann Daniel (late Edward E.) Lea of Pittsboro, NC, brother in law of James (Cathy) Mueller of St. Louis, MO and uncle of Robin Lea (Brian) Dailey of Wake Forest, NC, Matthew and Joseph Mueller.
