William Moore Boyce, Jr. ’49

William Moore Boyce, Jr., 87, of Davidson, N.C., passed away on February 24, 2016, at The Pines at Davidson. William was born February 25, 1928, in Atlanta, Ga., to the late William and Mildred Boyce. William was a graduate of Davidson College, and later received a bachelor’s degree of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and was ordained into the ministry in 1952.

During his ministry, he served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict with the 7th Infantry Division.

He served congregations in Charlotte, N.C., at St. Paul Presbyterian Church from 1955 to 1962; in Portsmouth, Va., at First Presbyterian Church from 1962 to 1968; and in Richmond, Va., at Lakeside Presbyterian in Richmond, Va., from 1968 to his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement, he moved to The Pines at Davidson in 2007.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bedford W. Boyce; and brother-in-law, Edward G. Sellers. William is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Sellers Boyce; sons, David (Elizabeth) and Richard (Kathleen) Boyce; daughter, Barbara Boyce Whitesides (Edward); 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert E. Boyce and James G. Boyce; and brothers-in-law, Charles G. Sellers and Phillip A. Sellers.

A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Davidson College Presbyterian Church in Davidson, N.C., with a reception to follow at the Congregational Care House.
