John Little Watwood ’60

Visitation for Dr. John Little Watwood, 76, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Dr. Watwood passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at his residence. He was born on April 25, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama to Arnold Hobson Watwood and Juanita Little Watwood. Dr. Watwood graduated from Childersburg High School in 1956 and completed his BS degree from Davidson College.

He finished medical school at University of Alabama in Birmingham, followed with a surgical residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, and achieved Board Certification in General Surgery.

Prior to practicing general surgery at Russell Medical Center and the surrounding area for 33 years, he was stationed in Korea with the Army Medical Corp during the Vietnam War. His Hobbies were golf, bridge, and classical music – he was a lifelong learner.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy Gayle Hargett Watwood of Alexander City; daughter, Anne Hargett Watwood of Alexander City; sister, Nancy Jane Gibbs of Birmingham; and nephew, Jordan Gibbs. He was preceded in death by his parents.
