Hendley S. Reynolds Jr. ’46

Mr. Hendley Stone Reynolds, Jr., 91, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Duke Regional Hospital. He was born in Nashville, Tenn., son of the late Hendley Stone Reynolds, Sr. and the late Berta Louise Bedford Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds was also predeceased by a brother, Altman Reynolds.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving during WWII. Mr. Reynolds attended Davidson College before the war and attended Duke University following the war, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was a former member of Homestead Heights Baptist Church, where he served as church treasurer and spent every Monday assisting with the church finances, and was currently a member of Grey Stone Church. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed by IBM for 25 years.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Eleanor Jones Reynolds; daughters, Gina Reynolds Culbreth and husband, Mark, and Beth Reynolds Young; son, Hendley “Peb” Stone Reynolds, III, all of Durham; grandchildren, Ashlyn McFarland, Matthew Culbreth and wife, Kate, Daniel Culbreth, Nicholas McFarland and Christy Reynolds; and a sister, Adele Underwood of Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held Thursday 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Chaplain Phil Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Markham Memorial Gardens.
