Daniel Currie Bell '51Daniel Currie Bell (born 1927) of Dublin, Va., passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Feb. 18, 2015, at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va. He was 88 years old.

The son of Francis Bell III and Stella (Currie) Bell, Dan served as a Navy hospital corpsman in World War II and was a graduate of Davidson College (1951). He was owner of Bell Realty (later Century 21), owner/manager of Dublin Hardware, and was a past president of the New River Valley Board of Realtors. A lifetime and charter member of the Dublin Lions Club, Dan was very active in the local community through his service with the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, the Industrial Development Authority for Pulaski County, and numerous other civic organizations.

Beloved by his family and friends, Dan is predeceased by his brother, Francis Bell IV (Harrisonburg, Va.), and is survived by his wife, Joanne (Lewis) Bell; sister, Ellen (Bell) Campbell (Harrisonburg, Va.); sister- in-law, Isabelle (Mottesheard) Bell (Harrisonburg, Va.); and stepchildren, Denise Yama (Atlanta, Ga.), David Yama (San Francisco, Calif.), and Leah (Yama) P’Simer (Seattle, Wash).

A service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. at Meredith Chapel, Sunnyside, with the Rev. Paul O’Gorek officiating. There will be a second larger service on Friday, Feb. 27, 11 a.m. at New Dublin Presbyterian Church in Dublin, Va., where Dan was a former treasurer and lifetime member.

In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Sunnyside Foundation, New Dublin Presbyterian Church, the Dan and Joanne Bell Endowed Scholarship at New River Community College, Dublin, Va., or the Daniel C. and Joanne L. Bell Endowment Fund of the New River Valley Community Foundation.
