Robert Andrew “Andy” Gordon, Jr. ’59

Andy Gordon, 77, formerly of Gastonia passed away February 16, 2015 in Hendersonville, North Carolina, where he lived for the last 15 years.

Andy was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, to Lucille Mason Gordon and Robert Andrew Gordon, Sr. on March 21st, 1937. He graduated from Gastonia High School and went on to earn a degree in economics from Davidson College and a Juris Doctorate degree from Duke Law School.

He worked as a bank trust officer for most of his career. Andy was in the ROTC at Davidson College and served as a captain in the United States Army.

He gave of his time generously and, among many charitable involvements, was a Boy Scout leader, president of a Chamber of Commerce and a pioneer in the training and organization of Hospice and Head Start programs in Florida.

A dedicated father, he also enjoyed hiking, camping, woodworking projects and playing music with his sons. He was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church in Arden.

Andy is survived by his wife, Linda Gordon; his brother John B. Gordon of Raleigh; sons Robert, Gary and Steve Gordon; grandchildren Katheryn Wolfley, Heather Gordon, Robert Gordon, Alexis Gordon, Alaina Gordon and Anastasia Gordon; and great-grandsons Wilhelm and Robert Wolfley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elizabeth House at Four Seasons Compassion for Life in Flat Rock.
