Cecil Kenneth Brown, Jr. '54Cecil Kenneth Brown, Jr. Born in Mecklenburg County, NC to Cecil Kenneth Brown, Sr. and Evelyn Hill Brown, he was the oldest of four children. He attended Woodberry Forest School graduating in 1950. He went on to attend Davidson College in Davidson, NC acquiring a BA in Economics.

 

He participated in the ROTC graduating as a 2nd lieutenant serving in the US Army. It was during that time that he met his wife of 57 years, Myrna Ames Brown. They were married on June 20, 1955. He then enrolled in UNC Law School in 1956. After graduating from law school in 1959, he began practicing law in Raleigh. He served as president of the Wake Country Bar Association. He was a deacon and elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church where he was a charter member.

 

He was an ardent alumni and giver to Woodberry Forest School, Davidson College and UNC. He was known by family and friends at Ken and in the law community as CK. He enjoyed history and had a passion for the Civil War and World War II. He also enjoyed traveling with his family.

 

He is predeceased by his wife, Myrna Ames Brown, and his daughter, Katherine Brown Bathurst. He is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn Brown Stewart of New Bern and Laura Brown DiGirolamo of Raleigh. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1st at 11am at Trinity Presbyterian Church located 3120 New Hope Road in Raleigh, NC.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
