Lloyd Wilson “Jack” Pritchett, Jr. ’45

L.W. (Jack) Pritchett, Jr., 89, a lifelong resident of Alamance County, passed away on June 3, 2014 at The Village at Brookwood. Jack graduated from Burlington High School and attended Davidson College. He served his country during WWII as a bombardier in the Army Air Corps (Pacific Theater). Upon the sudden death of his father in 1945, he returned to Burlington to assume leadership of the third generation family business. Jack remained President of L.W. Pritchett Jr,Inc. from 1945 until his passing.

Jack is survived by his spouse of 68 years, Nancy Ward Pritchett, a daughter Kay Motley (Dwight), a son Ward Pritchett (Karen), three grandchildren Leigh Pittman, Sarah Branham, and Jack W. Pritchett, three great grandchildren, two sisters: Nancy Miles (Burlington) and Emma Jewel (Wilmington), and many former customers in Alamance and surrounding counties.

Over the decades, Jack was actively involved in the community. Early on he was a scoutmaster. He was a long time volunteer at the YMCA, serving as president in1971. He served as chairman of the City Recreation and Parks Commission. He was a Kiwanis Club member for 60 years and was humbled to receive the Kiwanis Club Alamance County Citizen of the Year Award in 2001. Jack also served as a long time board member for the Presbyterian Home at Hawfields. Both Jack and Nancy were dedicated members of the First Presbyterian Church; he was a long time Sunday school teacher, church officer, and wherever needed “volunteer”. Jack’s quiet presence, gentle wit, and dedication to family and community will be sorely missed.

The family thanks the entire staff at The Village at Brookwood and especially the caregivers on Stratford East.

A memorial service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 9, at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington. Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 508 West Davis Street, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

The family will receive friends in the John Knox Room after the service.
