Norman Graham Smith ’52

Mr. N. Graham Smith, 82, of Jimmie Kerr Road, Haw River, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at 5 a.m. A native of Robeson County, he was the husband of the late Barbara Tolar Smith and the son of N. Graham Smith, Sr. and Alice Lee Sinclair Smith, both deceased. He was a Davidson College graduate and a huge Wildcats fan. Graham was a member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He sat on the Board of Directors for the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields and the Hawfields Presbyterian Child Care and Development Center and was instrumental in the development of both facilities. He was also a member of the Graham Rotary Club and a former leader of the 4-H Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Alice Ray and husband Phil of Haw River, Beth Dunkley and husband Steve of Graham and Penny Smith of the home and her caregivers, Annie Belle White, Crystal Norton and Shannon Tyler; son, Tripp Smith and wife Faye of Graham; two grandchildren, Tolar and Laura Ray of Haw River; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at Hawfields Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. J. David Ealy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence of the daughter, Alice Ray, 1879 Jimmie Kerr Road, Haw River, NC.
