Thomas Eugene Breeden ’55

Dr. Thomas Eugene Breeden, 81, of Swansboro, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. He had a peaceful passing in his home.

He was the son of Arch Lamar and Amanda Manning Breeden. He was born and raised in Bennettsville, S.C. He graduated from Davidson College, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, served in the U.S. Air Force, specialized in obstetrics and gynecology in both Carolinas Medical in Charlotte and Union Memorial and John Hopkins in Baltimore, Md. He practiced in Rock Hill, S.C., and Gastonia, before moving to the coast and working at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune. He retired in 2006. He served as president of the Heart Society of Gaston County, on many boards and was an elder and a musician in his church, Emerald Isle Chapel by the Sea.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlton Rogers Breeden; one daughter, Charlton Amanda McMehan, 2177 Wentworth Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29732; and three sons, David and wife Mandy of Carolina Beach, Tom Jr. of Holly Springs and Chris and wife Laura of Crozet, Va.; and eight grandchildren, Thomas E. Breeden III, Cody Breeden, Dalton and Shelby McMehan, Meryl and Mari Belle Breeden and Christopher and Alexander Breeden.

Donations in memory of Dr. Breeden may be given to Emerald Isle Chapel by the Sea building fund, 6712 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle, N.C. 28594.
