Ervin Wall Funderburk ’60

Ervin Wall Funderburk ’60 died Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Born in Cheraw, SC he was the son of the late Dr. James Ernest and Effie Wall Funderburk. Dr. Funderburk was a native of Cheraw where he practiced dentistry for forty three years and was lovingly called “Doc”. He was a graduate of Cheraw High School, Cheraw, SC; Davidson College, Davidson, NC and the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the South Carolina Dental Association. He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC, and had served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, Deacon and Elder, as well as, serving and chairing several committees. Dr. Funderburk supported the Boy Scouts of America for many years. As a young man of only 13 he was the youngest Eagle Scout in the state at that time. He was an avid hunter and shared that passion with his sons, which was instilled in him by the late Ed Robeson. “Doc” served as a member of Cheraw Town Council from January 1974 to April 2006 and had held the office of Mayor Pro Tem. He had been a member of the Cheraw Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife Connie G. Funderburk, his sons, Charles (Dinah) S. Funderburk, Wyatt (Sheila) Funderburk, grand-daughters, Catherine and Savannah Funderburk all of Cheraw, SC, sisters, Nancy F. Robeson of Cheraw SC and Jean F Smoak of Easley, SC. Hs is also survived by his stepchildren, their spouses and children, also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, his first wife Vicki Funderburk, son, Ervin Wall Funderburk, Jr. as well as, several half brothers and sisters. “Doc” was a kind and caring man, loved by all who knew him and who will be missed by his many friends and loyal patients. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 7, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial will be in Old Saint David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.
