Robert B. Walker, Jr. ’49, 88, of Columbia, S.C., died Nov. 5, 2012. Born in Columbia on Oct. 23, 1924, he was the son of the late Robert Bratton Walker ’18 and Elizabeth Law Walker. He was married to the late Susan Willingham Walker. Walker attended the local schools and was president of his student body. He also attended McCallie Military School, Chattanooga, Tenn. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. Commissioned as a lieutenant flight instructor for the B-25s, he served four years. Upon discharge he attended Davidson and graduated from the University of South Carolina. Walker was the owner of Rose Talbert Paint Company and a former partner in Joseph Walker & Company. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and numerous local and civic organizations. Surviving are his children, Robert B. Walker III (Beth), Pope B. Walker (Mary Hughes), Ellen Henderson Walker, 310 Broad St., Apt. 7P, Charleston, SC 29401-1258, and J. Felix Walker II; grandchildren, Elizabeth L. Walker, Catherine C. Walker, Virginia N. Shropshire (Colin), Susan W. Walker, Henry L. Martin, D. Bratton Martin, and Mary Myers Walker. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth W. Fensel; brother, Cosmo L. Walker II; nieces, Elizabeth F. Hobson and Margaret F. Palmer; and nephew, F. Peter Fensel, Jr.
