Ian Robinson Filiss ’88

Ian Robinson Filiss ’88, 47, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 8, 2012, at his home in Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI. He was born July 26, 1965, in Oakland, Calif., and grew up in the Big Laurel Community in Madison County. He was a graduate of Davidson. After college he moved to St. Croix, where he owned and operated Caribbean Courts, a construction company. Filiss was preceded in death by his brother, William Filiss. He is survived by his mother, Mary Filiss, and stepfather, Lionell Filiss, Rt. 6, Marshall, NC 28753, as well as his father and stepmother, George and Joyce Robinson. Surviving him also are his brothers, Christopher Robinson (Margie), Alexander Filiss (Traci), George Filiss (Bianca), Ezekiel Filiss (Courtney), Augustus Filiss, Jasper Filiss (Lisa), Cedar Robinson (Sarah), David Robinson, and Mike Reich (Lori); his sisters, Jemima Cook (Matthew) and Grace Carrender (Mark); 18 nieces and nephews; his dear friend, Tammy Ballard; and his beloved dog, Fergie. Many lives were touched and helped in a quiet and selfless way by his love and deeds. He will always be loved and will be terribly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.
