Charles Andrew “Red” Neisler ’49

Charles Andrew “Red” Neisler ’49, of Kings Mountain, N.C., died peacefully Oct. 14, 2012, at Hospice of Cleveland Co., Kings Mountain. Neisler was born on Sept. 14, 1927, to Paul Mauney Neisler ’19 and Kathryn Moss Neisler in their home in Kings Mountain. Neisler was a graduate of Davidson. After college he worked for Blackmer & Company in Kings Mountain, first as a cotton buyer, and then as a cotton broker. In 1964 he joined his father and brothers at Dicey Mills, Inc. in Shelby as a salesman, where he worked until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher for many years. Neisler was an avid and accomplished golfer, winning the Kings Mountain Club Championship in 1963 and 1965. He was a devoted fan of Davidson athletics, being an inaugural member of the Davidson Fast Break Club. He also was a 61-year member of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club. Neisler is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Sommers Neisler, 700 Lee St., Kings Mountain, NC 28086; his three sons, Charles A. Neisler, Jr. ’74, George Scott Neisler, and Lee Sommers Neisler ’86; daughters-in-law, Sylvia M. Neisler, Dawn N. Neisler, and Lisa Cash Neisler ’85; grandsons, Charles A. Neisler III ’05, George Garrett Neisler, and Maxwell Sommers Neisler; and granddaughters, Wendy A. Neisler, Virginia A. Neisler ’07, Charlotte “Carly” L. Neisler, and Rachel Lee Neisler. Neisler is also survived by his twin brother, Henry Parks Neisler ’49 [who has since passed away on Jan. 7, 2013]. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul M. Neisler, Jr. ’44.
