Donald McIver, Jr. ’46

Donald McIver, Jr. ’46, of Charlotte, N.C., died April 10 in Hickory, N.C. He was born Sep. 15, 1922, in Bristol, Va. He was the son of the Reverend Dr. Donald McIver, Sr. and Pauline Russell McIver. He graduated from Davidson, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and was manager of the Davidson Wildcats baseball team. He married Judith Ann Smith, of Bristol, Tenn., in 1945, and they were married 59 years until her death in 2004. McIver served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a second lieutenant in the European and Pacific Theaters aboard LCI’s. He had been a resident of Hickory and Charlotte, N.C., since the 1960s with his family. He worked most of his career in sales for Litton Industries. After “retiring,” he enjoyed working for 20 years at Carriage Club of Charlotte. He loved trains, all sports, hanging out with his friends at the Village Tavern, and spending time with his family. He is survived by one sister, Mary Gordon McIver Phleeger, and two children, Donald Gordon McIver and Judith McIver Bost, 1852 2nd St. NW, Hickory, NC 28601-1807. He was the much beloved “DanDan” to his three grandsons, Benjamin McIver Bost (Natalie), Russell Alexander McIver, and Andrew Gordon McIver, and his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bennett Bost. He is preceded in death by his brother, Alexander McIver, and his sisters, Ruth McIver Blevins and Pauline McIver Wade.
