Herman Webster “Butch” Zimmerman, Jr. ’62

Retired Superior Court Judge Herman Webster “Butch” Zimmerman, Jr. ’62, of Lexington, N.C., passed away March 31 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. Zimmerman was born in Davidson County on June 4, 1939, to Herman Webster “Doc” Zimmerman, Sr. and Winifred Ebelein Zimmerman.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served his country in the Army, earning the rank of captain. He was a graduate of Davidson and Wake Forest University School of Law.

In 1970, he was elected district attorney and held this office until 1994, when he was elected as a superior court judge for the 22nd judicial district, after which he practiced law until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Harriet Jones Zimmerman, 206 West 3rd Ave., Lexington, NC 27292; two daughters, Nancy Findling Zimmerman and Amanda Zimmerman Fulton (Chris); one son, H.W. “Trey” Zimmerman III (Maria); three grandchildren, Caroline Thomas Zimmerman, Elizabeth Crawford Zimmerman, and Wilson Webster “Webb” Fulton; one sister, Winnie Zimmerman Craven (Dr. Scott Craven); and one brother, Dr. Robert Edward Zimmerman.
