James Vance Houston ’44

James Vance Houston ’44, formerly of Mooresville, passed away on August 4, 2005, at The Pines in Davidson. He attended Davidson for two years and then graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He was retired director of marketing of Allied Signal Corp., New York, N.Y. He was president emeritus of Cavin–Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was past president of the Mooresville Rotary Club, past commander of American Legion Post 66, past Chef-deGare 40/8, life member of VFW Post 1072, and past chairman of Lowrance Hospital Corporation. Mr. Houston was a former member of the American Textile Chemist and Colorist, New York Textile Salesmen Association, New York Weavers Club, Chicago Furniture City Club, Cabarrus Country Club, Greensboro Country Club, Greensboro City Club, Winston-Salem Twin City Club and Charlotte Athletic Club.Mr. Houston is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and a very special friend, Peggy Davidson. He was preceded in death by sisters, Linda Buie and Nellie Bender.
