Lisa Ann Klahn Pope ’84, 48, of Lancaster, Pa., died Feb. 1 due to complications from cancer. Born in Morristown, N.J., she was the daughter of Richard and Carol Corkran Klahn, 300 Willow Valley Lakes Dr., Apt. C, Willow Street, PA 17584-9442. Pope attended Davidson before graduating from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in art history. As an Air Force wife, she traveled throughout the U.S. before settling in Fayetteville, N.C. She is survived by her daughter, Lydia K. Pope; her brother, Charles Klahn; and her best friend and care provider, Martha Mahlke.
James Dexter Walcott, Jr. ’84
James Dexter Walcott, Jr. ’84, 48, of Lawrence Township, N.J., passed away suddenly of heart failure Jan. 24. Born in Trenton, N.J., he was an area resident his entire life.
Walcott attended Davidson and graduated from Boston University. Some of his fondest times were spent at Camp Timanous in Raymond, Maine.
Walcott was preceded in death by his father, J. Dexter Walcott, Sr., and was the grandson of the late Elinor S. and E. Stanley Barclay and Zala E. and D. Hailey Walcott.
Surviving are his mother and her companion, Susan Walcott (Rob Van Vranken); one sister, Ann Walcott Douglas ’81 (Keith), 260 Lochan Cv., Alpharetta, GA 30022; two uncles, Edward S. Barclay and William S. Walcott; one aunt, Nancy W. Burdge; and two nieces and one nephew, Hailey, Laura, and John Douglas.
Burt Fowler Taylor III ’84
Burt Fowler Taylor III ’84 of Memphis, Tenn., died on January 9, 2006, in Nashville, Tenn. He attended UMS, received a B.A. from Davidson College and an M.B.A. from Tulane University. Survivors include his parents, Dr. Burt F. Taylor and Weezie Taylor, 6013 Sussex Dr., Mobile, Ala. 36604; a sister, Tammy Taylor Padilla and her husband, Tim, and their three children from Denver, Colo., and one aunt, Lucy Jane Taylor, of Nashville, Tenn. Dennis Roy Swearengin ’84
Dennis Roy Swearengin ’84 of Chicago, Ill., died September 26, 2005, in California from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Following graduation from Davidson, he earned his medical degree from Duke University in 1988. He performed a year-long residency in internal medicine at Long Island Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in radiology and completed a specialty in neuro-radiology at New York University Hospital. He was working as a neuro-radiologist at Christ Advocate Hospital in Oaklawn, Ill. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Joanne Swearengin, 607 Carolina Ave. South, Statesville, N.C. 28677; his special aunt, Martha Wood; cousins, Cindy and Marty Wood; and great nephews, Grant and Preston Wood, all of Heflin, La. Also left to cherish his memory are special friends, William Geradi, M.D., of Chicago, Ill., Dr. Greg Parker of Charlotte; and Dr. Kent Davis of Raleigh, N.C.
