Thomas Ralph Agnew was born August 6, 1942, the only child of Homer R. Agnew and Emma Ralph Agnew in Ocala, Florida. He died November 3, 2025 as a result of complications from a traumatic brain injury in 2022. He is survived by his wife Greta and daughter Anna.
Tom was an avid athlete and scholar from childhood on. He played short stop and was a pitcher for the Little League Baseball Team and was selected to play on the All Star Team at age 9. He was a member of Boy Scout Troup 72 and at age 12, he became the youngest Eagle Scout in Florida. He was on the golf team in high school and in college. He played trumpet in the high school band, served as President of his senior class at Ocala High, and was in ROTC. He graduated with honors and received a land grant to Davidson College, where he was in Sigma Chi fraternity. After receiving his degree in political science, he went to Army Intelligence Training and was deployed to Vietnam, a service of which he was always proud. Following his 2 year service, he moved to Atlanta and joined First Union Bank, staying through several acquisitions until his retirement from Wells Fargo in 2005. He received a Bachelor of Laws from Atlanta Law School in 1970 and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University in 1972.
He was a member of the Atlanta Athletic Club for 56 years where he enjoyed golfing and dining. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the ASO and Spivey Hall. He loved dogs and never met a dog that did not love him. His first dog, Tuck, followed him to school and waited to walk home with him. There were articles in the Ocala paper about Tom and his beloved dog following him throughout Ocala!
A Celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at the Atlanta Athletic Club from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
