Robert Davidson Hall Jr. (Dave), a lifelong servant-leader and devoted family man, passed away on September 17, 2025, just days before his 87th birthday.
Born in Belmont, North Carolina, on September 26, 1938, Dave graduated from Belmont High School in 1957, where he played saxophone in the school band. He continued his education at Davidson College, graduating in 1961 and competing on the college wrestling team.
Dave proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1965. He was aboard the USS John R. Pierce during the Cuban Missile Crisis and later served on the USS Malloy.
His professional career was centered in Gaston County’s textile industry, where he held executive roles for many years. He also served as director of Belmont Federal Savings and Loan, earning the respect of colleagues and community members alike.
A man of deep faith and service, Dave was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Belmont, where he served as Deacon, Elder, Superintendent of Sunday School, Boy Scout Master, and choir member. He extended his commitment to service as the Service Chairman for the International Rotary Club.
Dave’s love for the outdoors included a memorable summer working with the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho and the Dakotas. Though he lived most of his life in Belmont, he relocated to Raleigh in 2022 to be near his oldest son and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Garrie Natalia Crowell Hall; their two sons, Robert Davidson Hall Ill and Michael Matthews Hall; and five cherished grandchildren.
Dave will be remembered for his unwavering faith, steadfast devotion to family, and a lifetime of service to his community and country.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 1:00pm, at First Presbyterian Church of Belmont with Rev. Sam Warner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the gathering space.
