William Chad Winebarger ’02

William Chad Winebarger was born July 18, 1980, in Statesville, NC.  He passed away Friday, February 21, 2025.

Chad grew up in Elkin, NC, a small town that he loved.  He was a thoughtful friend, smart student, and excellent athlete.  He played many sports, but he excelled at tennis.  As a junior tennis player, he was ranked number one in the state of North Carolina and won multiple high school state championships.  He was also president of his senior class at Elkin High School.

Chad played tennis at Davidson College and played number one singles on the tennis team his senior year.  He was also a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.  Chad graduated from Davidson College in 2002 and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2006.  He practiced law at Bollinger Law Firm in Charlotte for almost 20 years.  While he had a breadth of legal knowledge and handled a wide array of cases, his practice focused on representing injured workers.

Chad was a kind and humble person, whose greatest joy was being a father.  He taught his sons how to play tennis, basketball, baseball, golf, and soccer.  Most of all, he taught them how to be kindhearted.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his wife, sons, parents, and other family members.

Chad is survived by his wife, Deepa and sons, Will (10) and Evan (7), whom he loved with all his heart.  He is also survived by his parents, William and Linda Winebarger, with whom he was very close; his sister, Tasha Sheehy and her husband Tim, and their daughters, Lily and Grace, with whom he was also very close; and his brother, Scott Winebarger and his wife, Annette, and their daughter, Annika Wood and son-in-law, Joseph.

A service to celebrate Chad’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.  A private burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall until 11:45 AM.  The service will be livestreamed at: https://test.myersparkumc.org/worship-with-us/funerals/  for those unable to attend in person.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Chad to The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte, 3900 Park Road, Suite C, Charlotte, NC 28209 or via https://dsagreatercharlotte.org/donate/.
