Walter Allman Underwood ’63

Walter Allman Underwood – February 12, 1941 – October 11, 2022. Walter Allman Underwood – born in Mobile, Alabama on February 12, 1941 was the only child of Walter E. Underwood and Corinne Richardson Underwood.

He graduated from UMS class of 1959 and attended Davidson College in North Carolina where he received a business degree.

He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, where he learned to snow ski and enjoyed the great food and beer. When he returned to the United States, he attended the University of Alabama receiving his master’s in Business Management.

He was a district manager for Ford Motor Company in Buffalo, New York. Then he met the love of his life, Mary Frances Luttrell, and returned to Mobile.

He worked at the Mobile Chamber of Commerce for many years in various leadership roles. He was a wonderful husband and father who loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Underwood, his daughter, Mary Frances DeLong (Tim DeLong) and three grandchildren, Drew, Thomas and Caroline Harris. He was a devout Christian who daily lived his faith.

A graveside service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to any animal rescue group. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
