C. Harley Dickson, Jr. died Aug. 19, 2021

Born in Asheville in 1929, he graduated from Lee Edwards High School, Davidson College and Duke Divinity School. He was a United Methodist pastor for 46 years, serving congregations in Coleridge, Shelby, Albemarle, Wadesboro, Lexington, Greensboro and Charlotte. He served as a district superintendent in Waynesville and Greensboro and worked diligently to improve retirement compensation for ministers. As executive director of the Western North Carolina United Methodist Foundation, he was instrumental in creating the very successful Reynolds Program of leadership development for ministers.

He enjoyed organizing the one week build of a Habitat home in Waynesville. He spent many years as a member of the board of trustees of Brevard College (University) and was granted an honorary Ph.D. from Pfeiffer College (University).

The author of several books and a general contractor licensee, he and Inez (his wife of 68 years) went on many mission trips to Haiti, enjoyed boating with friends and family on Lake Norman, and spent their last full years at Lake Junaluska and Givens Estates.

He was predeceased by his wife and is survived by two sons, Chuck (Sybil) and Kenneth, four grandchildren, Johanna, Daniel, Sam and Nora and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at the Memorial Chapel of Lake Junaluska on Sept. 24, 2021 at 1 p.m.
