John O. Stover, Jr. ’64

Dr. John O. Stover Jr., 78, of Pellston, Michigan and Surf City, North Carolina passed away on April 22, 2021. 

John was born on October 1, 1942 to John (Bucky) O. and Betty Fayssoux Stover in Winston Salem, North Carolina. After graduating from Broughton High School in Raleigh NC, he studied pre-med and participated in ROTC at Davidson College. After graduation, John continued to pursue his medical interest and was awarded a M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in 1968. 

Upon completing medical school, John served his country as an active-duty reservist from 1969 to 1972 with the 13th Medical Detachment in Mannheim, Germany. 

Following his service, John completed a residency in radiology at the University of Oklahoma. He practiced as a board-certified radiologist for over forty years. John started his career in Rocky Mount, NC, later practicing across the country, holding licenses in multiple states. John was a man of many interests and passions, including travel with his beloved wife, Marilyn, and raising and riding horses on his farm in Red Oak.

Additionally, John was an avid potter for over twenty years where he and Marilyn enjoyed creating original works of art. Most importantly, he was a devoted family man who derived his greatest pleasure spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Dr. Stover is survived by his wife Marilyn Rupp Stover, his children Alexandra (Sandi) E. Gegout, John (Shawn) O. Stover, III, Gloria S. Lewis, and Patrick L. Stover, his ten grandchildren, Hilary, Anne-Sophie, Alexander, Christopher, Valentine, Andrew, Louis, Marick, Patrick, and Benjamin and three great grandchildren, Eleanore, Arthur, and Constantin. 

A celebration of life will be held in Surf City, NC on Saturday, May 1st and later this summer on Douglas Lake, MI.
