Herbert D. Harwood, 92, passed Monday, February 3, 2020, at his home in Rockville, Md.
Herbert is the beloved husband of the late Clare P. Harwood; loving father of Maurice (Bernadette) Harwood, Patricia McGuire, Joseph Harwood, James F. X. (Dorian) Harwood, and Kathryn (Paul) Powell; dear grandfather of Norah (Justin), Herbert Patrick (Amber), Monica (Thomas), Breanna, Mackenzie, and Jonathan; Great-Grandfather to Clara, Holly Belle, Emily, Herbert Stephens.
He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends, especially Rhonda Orndorff. His caregiver, Nana Ghansah, provided loving care and support to him this past year.
Herb was born in San Antonio, TX on Sept 9, 1927. He moved to Bethesda, MD in 1950, after serving in the Korean War. He played tennis well into his 80s.
More recently, he found many friends and much fun at the Rockville Senior Center. If not at the Senior Center, Herb could be found walking his dog around the neighborhood.
The family will receive friends at Pumphrey Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave, Rockville, MD, 20850 on February 9, 2020, from 3-5 PM.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered at Our Lady’s Chapel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, February 10, 2020, at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Washington, DC.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Montgomery County Humane Society.
