Richard Warren Rieger, Jr. ’59

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Richard Warren Rieger, Jr., will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Quaker Cemetery, Camden, SC. Rev. Henry Pickett Wall, Jr., will officiate. Richard died Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in Greenville, SC.

He was born in Camden, SC, September 8, 1937, the son of the late Carolina Houser Rieger and Richard Warren Rieger. Richard attended Camden schools and graduated from Davidson college in 1959. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy and served in San Diego, CA. and Norfolk, VA.

Richard was employed by the Development Office at Furman University and was the Executive Director of The Development Foundation at The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina.

He is survived by his wife, Juliana Burns Rieger; son, Richard W. Rieger III (Julie) of Columbia, and daughter, Caroline Rieger James (Hugh) of Spartanburg; and grandchildren, Ashton Conner Rieger, Helyn McNair Rieger, Hugh Tillman James, Jr., and Cooper McKenzie James.
