Robert F. Larew ’48

Robert Franklin (“Frank”) Larew died September 20, 2018 at Brookridge Baptist Retirement Home, Winston-Salem. He was born on November 3, 1927 in Mocksville NC to the late John J and Mary Sanford Larew. He attended Davidson College for two years and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1948. His career with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board was interrupted by a four year stint in the US Navy during the Korean War. Frank was living in Ft. Lauderdale, FL at the time of his retirement in 1983. Soon afterwards, he moved to Lancaster, SC to volunteer for eight years with the Wycliffe Bible Translators (JAARS) at Waxhaw, NC. After his 2004 move to the Brookridge Baptist Retirement Home in Winston-Salem, NC he joined the First Presbyterian Church, and volunteered time with the Shepherd’s Center, Crisis Control Ministry, and Meals-on-Wheels. He was predeceased by three brothers, an unnamed stillborn, John J. Larew of Waynesboro VA, and Hugh S. Larew of Winston-Salem NC. Survivors include one nephew and one niece, five great nephews and one great niece. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Winston-Salem on Tuesday, October 2nd at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary with a reception in the Fellowship Hall to follow.
