Richard Vance Fulp ’64

Mr. Richard Vance Fulp, 75, a native of Kernersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

He was born on June 17, 1942 in Forsyth County to the late William W. and Nell Culler Fulp. Dick graduated from Davidson College in 1964 receiving his BA in economics where he was a member of the men’s football squad and the R.O.T.C.

He earned his MBA from UNC Chapel Hill in 1965, and following, joined the United States Army, serving as Captain during the Vietnam War.

After receiving honorable discharge in 1970 he joined the Trust Department of Wachovia Bank, becoming Vice President in 1973 and later, manager of the trust division in Winston-Salem. In 1980 he joined SeaFirst Bank as Senior Vice President and manger of the Trust Division, later becoming Executive Vice President of the Trust Division.

Thru 1992, Dick served on many executive and directorial levels for SeaFirst / Bank of America in the US, Europe and Asia. In 1993, Dick became Chairman of Franklin Street Trust. Later he became General Partner of Franklin Street Ventures.

His professional and civic activities included, Director/Treasurer of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Chairman of Seafirst Foundation, Director of Depository Trust Company New York, Chairman of the American Bankers Association Trust and Investment Management Division, Director with Bank of San Francisco, member of Davidson Athletic Foundation, Trustee of historic Bethabara Park, Director at Arbor Acres, Director at Friends of Odd Fellows Cemetery and member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Douglas Fulp.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Larrimore Fulp, of the home; daughter, Leigh Fulp Hughett of Winston-Salem; son, Richard Vance Fulp, Jr. and wife Xiomara of Pittsboro, NC; brother, William W. Fulp, Jr. and wife Annette of Mebane, NC; three grandchildren, Robert Clayton Hughett, Parker Vance Hughett, and Zoe Gabriela Fulp; many nieces and nephews; and Sweetie the Cat.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Ford officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

A private interment in the church columbarium will be conducted prior to the service.
