Samuel E. Lack ’45

Sam LackSam, the son of Joshua Samuel and Margaret Blanche Sanders Lack, was born on July 29, 1923 in Demopolis, Alabama. He passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017, in DeRidder, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lack and sister, Sarah Lack.

He is survived by sons, Samuel E. Lack of Utah, Samuel D. Lack (Penny) of DeRidder, LA, Jack E. Lack (Gina) of Lake Charles, LA, daughters; Margaret Davison (Bill) of Kingwood, TX, Blanche Lack of Bethlehem, PA, Alice Canterbury of Kingwood, TX, Christi A. Cooley of Pickering, LA, Leslie L. Morgan (Julius) of DeRidder, LA and Mary Jean Rabalais (Bryan) of DeRidder, LA., sister; Marion Benton (James) of Brentwood, CA., numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sam was born in Demopolis, AL, he was the son of a Presbyterian preacher and lived in various places growing up. After a short term in the US Army and Merchant Marines he went to ULL (formerly USL) where he earned a degree in education. He taught woodworking in Oakdale High School and later opened L&O Furniture in DeRidder and remained in business for over 50 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of DeRidder and the DeRidder Lions Club.
