Jayson Hyun ’53

Jayson Hyun, MD, 87, of Avon, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Born in Korea, Jayson moved to the United States to attend Davidson College after completing medical school in Seoul. His long and accomplished career in medicine included roles at Albany Medical College and Medical Center, where he met his wife of 61 years, Barbara, as well as instituting an Immunology Department at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

He was a member of many professional societies, including a Fellow in the American College of Pathologists, Fellow of American College of Clinical Pathology and American Association for Clinical Chemistry. His academic appointments included roles as a Clinical Professor at Yale University School of Medicine and University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Jayson was a cultured man with varied interests including philately, where he was a renowned expert in Asian stamps. He also enjoyed tennis, world travel, opera music, classic movies and his beloved dog, Wally.

After retirement, Jayson enjoyed years at his Cape Cod home in Harwich before eventually settling back in Avon.

Jayson is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; daughter Nancy Long; son David Hyun and his wife Barbara; his sister, Duksung Kim; and grandchildren Jessica Long, Kyle McCaffrey, Olivia Hyun and Amanda Hyun.

There will be a private service for family at Fairview Cemetery on Friday, May 5, 2017. The Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center of Avon is in care of the arrangements.
