John Columbus Cowan, III, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 21, 2017. He was born on September 24, 1928 to the late John and Edith Cowan of Rutherfordton, North Carolina. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University and was an Industrial Engineer. He was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister.
John was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn. John is survived by his children, Derek Cowan and wife, Emily of Hendersonville; Farnell Holton and husband, Rick of Brighton, Mass. Betsy Hicks and husband, Lawrence of Greensboro; Rev. Newton Cowan and wife, Carrie of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jenkins, Bo and Raleigh Cowan, Christian and Haynes Hicks and Mary Mac and Ellie Cowan; his brother, Dr. Bob Cowan and wife, Caroline of Winston-Salem; nieces, Carol Morris and Barbara Scott; 2 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday March 25, 2017 at Christ Episcopal Church with The Reverend Marty Hedgpeth officiating.
