Ralph Alexander Long ’56

Ralph Alexander Long, 80, of State College, died comfortably surrounded by his family, on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born December 24, 1934 in Charlotte, N.C., he was the son of the late Robert Henry and Susanne Alice Brenisen Long. He married Nancy Ross in June of 1964, she preceded him in death on August 19, 2014.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy A. Long, of Bellefonte and Lesley Ward and her husband, William, of Harrisburg; and five grandchildren, Cody Long, Kasey Long, Devin Kos, Elaina Ward and Marisa Ward. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Rylan Long and Kaylyn Long.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Brenisen Long and Rev. Robert Edward Long. He served in the United States Army. Ralph was a 1956 graduate of Davidson College receiving a bachelor’;s degree in Mathematics. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and also Sigma Pi Sigma, a Physics Honor Society.

He spent the majority of his career employed at H.R.B. Singer, now Raytheon, as a Program Manager. Ralph enjoyed Poker, Bridge, crossword puzzles and Wednesday morning breakfast club. He also enjoyed golf, both as a participant and a spectator.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015, in the Queen Ann Room at the Inn at Juniper Village at Brookline, 1930 Cliffside Drive, State College. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
