John “Jack” Thomas Ferguson ’40

John “Jack” Thomas Ferguson, 95, of Varina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Myrtle D. Ferguson; six brothers and sisters; and his granddaughter, Sarah Daniel. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Julia Meade Ferguson; their children, Jack Ferguson, Jr. (Leah), Meade Welch (Randy), Bill Ferguson (Susan), Pat Daniel (John); four grandchildren, John Daniel (Erin), Will Daniel, Courtney Fields (Danny), and Ryan Ferguson; one step-granddaughter, Samantha Miller (Brian); two great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack was born in North Carolina, grew up on Curles Neck Farm, and continued to live out his life on Malvern Hill Farm in Henrico County. He graduated from Varina High School and Davidson College. Mr. Ferguson was very active in his community and loved his church.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 28 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231; where a funeral service will be held Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
