Robert MacGregor Shive '56Dr. Robert M. Shive, 81, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2015, surrounded by his family. Dr. Shive was born in Luebo, Belgian Congo, on November 2, 1933. He was the son of missionary parents, Alexander M. Shive Sr. and Jean Belle Shive.

He attended Central School in Lubondi, Belgian Congo, and returned to the United States to graduate from Etowah High School in Etowah, North Carolina. He graduated from Davidson College and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’;s School of Medicine. He then completed his Residency at Medical College of Georgia in 1965. He returned to North Carolina and started his own psychiatric practice in Charlotte, which he continued until his retirement in 2006. Bob also volunteered at the Charlotte Rescue Mission.

He is survived by siblings Eugenia Setser and Phillip A. Shive; and his children: Cynthia, wife of Gerald S. Rogers, Robert M. Shive Jr., husband of Karen, Christopher N. Shive, Phillip A. Shive, husband of Valerie, Jonathan B. Shive; and his grandchildren: Josh and Tyler Rogers, Jessica (Graydon), Zachary, Jordan, and Kelsey Shive, and Delaney and Sarah Shive. Additionally, he is survived by his beloved guide dog, Otto. He was preceded in death by his wife Alma and brother Sandy.

A visitation will be held Monday, January 19, 2015, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 N. Sharon Amity Rd., Charlotte, NC 28205; a memorial service will follow at 12:00 pm at Matthews OPC, 2701 Rice Road Matthews, NC 28105.
