John Gilbert White, 88 of High Point died Thursday, November 13 at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation & Recovery Center. Born March 11, 1926 in Randolph County, he is the son of the late P.L. and Mary Petree White. Gib was a graduate of Davidson College and a veteran of the US Army, having ser ved in the tank corp. in WWII.
He was a charter member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Session. He was the contractor for the church columbarium that was designed by Sid Lenger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Julian B White. Gib is survived by his wife Nancy Wray White, and three children; John Gilbert White, Jr. (Myra) of Boulder Creek, CA, Richard Wray White (Kennetha) of Richmond, VA and Robert Latham White (Judy) of Sedgefield, NC; five grandchildren, Kelly (Todd Wirt), Erin, Corniece, Seth, Ross, and two great grandchildren; Mary Moss and John Gilbert Wirt: two sisters, Mary Louise Stone and Joanne McCuiston of High Point, NC and many nieces & nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Gib will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 836 W. Lexington Avenue, High Point, NC. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
The family would like to thank the staff at Shannon Gray and Hospice of the Piedmont for the loving care given to Gib.
