Franklin Chalmers Niblock, Jr. ’49

Dr. Franklin Chalmers Niblock, Jr., died at his home in Concord, Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Dr. Niblock was born Feb. 9, 1925 in Concord, to Franklin C. Niblock Sr. and Zeta Caldwell Niblock. After graduating from Concord High School, he served three and one-half years in the U.S. Army. After his return from service, he attended Davidson College and Duke University Medical School. He returned to Concord and spent the next 40 years practicing pediatrics for the children of Cabarrus County. Dr. Niblock was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church and served as Elder on several occasions.

He also served as chairman of the Cabarrus County Home Health Agency, president of the Cabarrus County Medical Society and chairman of the Board of Adjustment of the Planning and Zoning Commission. After his retirement from practicing pediatrics, he served a term on the Cabarrus County commission.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Niblock Eide; a son, Franklin C. Niblock III; a twin brother, Thomas C. Niblock; and four sisters, Ellen (Collie) Niblock, Katie Harvey Moore, Sarah Niblock Touchton and Margaret Niblock Harkins.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Louise; a daughter, Kay Niblock James; sons, William and wife, Anne and Marc and wife, Lisa; sister, Mary Niblock; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
