Frank McAlpine “Mac” Toole ’36

Funeral service for Dr. Frank McAlpine “Mac” Toole, 99, of Talladega will be Monday June 2, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Leeann Scarbrough will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. His family will receive friends Sunday from 4-6 PM at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega.

Dr. Toole passed away Friday, May 30, 2014, at his home. Born November 27, 1914, in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Toole grew up in Asheville, NC, and Talladega, attending school in both cities.

He was a 1932 graduate of Talladega High School, a 1936 graduate of Davidson College of NC, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and a 1940 graduate of Emory University School of Dentistry. After two years of practicing dentistry in Birmingham, Dr. Toole spent the next 43 years practicing dentistry in Talladega. During that time, he also served his country as a major with the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He retired from practice of dentistry on July 1, 1985.

Dr. Toole was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Talladega, where he served several terms as a Deacon, a term as Ruling Elder and a term as Clerk of Session. Dr. Toole also was a faithful member of the church choir.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Dr. Arthur Fulkerson Toole and Kate McAlpine Toole, his first wife, Florence Smith Toole, and son Frank McAlpine Toole, Jr.

Dr. Toole is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Toole, children, Howard Vandiver Toole, Stephen Clarke Toole, John Steven Fleming and Margaret Lindsey Fleming, brother, Dr. Arthur F. Toole, Jr., nephews, Dr. Arthur F. Toole, III, Barckley Wallace Toole, niece, Kitty Toole Kirby and 3 grandchildren.
