Richard Nelson Welton ’55

Richard Nelson Welton, age 81, of Snellville, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

He was born of missionary parents, the late Dr. Felix Burwell Welton and Frances Leila Gardner Welton in China on November 19, 1932.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 49-years, Mary Ann Foster Welton; daughter, Deirdre Welton Russell; son, Stephen Eric Welton; 5 grandchildren, Ivey, Timmy, Tori, Todd and Ginny; sisters, Patricia Welton Johnson, Janet Welton Gleeson, and Rebecca Welton Sumlin and more than 54 very dear nieces & nephews.

Richard earned his MA in Music from Florida State University.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

He lived in the Atlanta area for the past 37 years and was a Charter Member of Brookwood Presbyterian Church.

Locally famous as Snellville’s favorite “waver,” Richard had many dear friends and a host of well-wishers.

Worshiping God through vocal music was precious to Richard. We will therefore be hosting a Memorial service that focuses on musical arrangements by Richard himself as well as others he respected and loved.
