Thomas Wade Jackson, Sr. ’50

Dr. Thomas Wade Jackson, Sr., of Rome, GA, passed away March 27,2014.

Tom was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on September 3, 1926, the son of the late Langdon Andrew Jackson and Elsie Horner Jackson.

He was a graduate of Davidson College and Wake Forest’s Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in 1954.
After practicing general medicine in South Carolina and West Virginia, Tom did an OB-GYN residency at
Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio before moving to Rome in 1962 and establishing a practice here
for over 30 years.

He was a member and past president of the Rome Breakfast Optimist Club and was a member of the
Snow Hill Old School Baptist Church. Tom was a veteran of WWll, serving as a paratrooper in the Army
and part of the occupation forces in Japan following the war’s end. He was married to the late Lillian
Dorothy Elliott Jackson for 60 years prior to her passing earlier this year.

Survivors include four sons, Tom Jackson Jr. (Sue), Kennesaw; Mark Jackson (Darlene), Sanford, NC;
Robert Jackson (Nancy), Lawrenceville and David Jackson (Jennie), Lexington, KY, and one daughter,
Rosemary Jackson King (the late T.R. King), Huntsville, AL. Tom is also survived by one (twin) brother,
Sam Jackson (Marriott), Richmond, VA; 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 5,2014 at 3 p.m. in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s
Funeral Home. lnterment followed in Floyd Memory Gardens.
