John Timothy “Tim” McCorkle, 75, of Emerald Isle, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, surrounded by family and friends.
Tim was born in Knoxville, Tenn., on Nov. 9, 1938, and was the son of William Hart McCorkle and Martha Burkhead McCorkle. He graduated from Davidson College and obtained his master’s degree from Converse College.
Tim was a teacher for more than 44 years, 11 of which were in Venezuela, and touched the lives of many during his educational journey. Retiring in 2005, he moved to Emerald Isle.
Tim is survived by his best friend and wife of 18 years, Mary Ethel; two sons, William “Bill” McCorkle and Richard “Rick” McCorkle; two daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” McConkle and Martha “Marty” Wessel and husband Reggie; sister, Catherine “Cathie” McConkle; and five grandchildren, Molley, Kendall, Conner, Sean and Emily.
