Ralph H. Chaney, Jr. ’44

Dr. Ralph H. Chaney, Jr., 91, of Brunswick passed on to be with The Lord at Sears Manor, on January 3, 2014 after an extended illness.

He was married for 61 years to his loving wife, Mary Burke Chaney, who passed away February 2009.

He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Edwards, grandsons Bill Edwards III of Brunswick and Bobby Edwards (wife Lisa) of Atlanta, his son Billy Chaney (wife Patty), grandsons, Daniel and Michael of Atlanta, granddaughter Catherine of Atlanta, his son Ralph Chaney III (wife Patsy), granddaughter Kim, grandson Travis of Bartlett, TN, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Billy and Erroll Hatcher of Augusta, sister-in-law Betty Lou Chaney of Long Beach, CA, and brother-in-law John Johnson of Jacksonville, FL.

He was born the 4th of June, 1922, to the late Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Chaney, Sr. He was preceded in death by his older brother Lucian Chaney, twin brother Rudolph Chaney, and sister Viola Johnson.

He grew up in Augusta, GA, graduated from Davison College, University of Pennsylvania Medical School and completed residency programs at Cook County Hospital and Medical College of GA in anesthesiology. He practiced medicine in Toccoa, Rome and Brunswick, GA. He was a past president of the Glynn County Medical Society. He was a member of the Jekyll Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He had a terrific sense of humor and cared deeply for his family, friends and patients. He will be sincerely missed.
