Christian “Chris” Ole Hoveland ’93

Christian Hoveland, 43, beloved husband of Shubha Hoveland and devoted father of James and Charles, died peacefully in Brooklyn, New York, on Monday, January 20.

Christian was a 1989 graduate of The Hill School, Pottstown, Pennsylvania; a 1993 graduate of Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina; and a 2001 graduate of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Chicago, Illinois. He was an investment banker with Merrill Lynch for ten years and a business development consultant for the past two years.

Christian’s lust for life, devotion to his family, insatiable curiosity and quest for knowledge, passion for art and music, love of nature and wildlife, and compassion and generosity were an inspiration to all who had the good fortune to know him.

In addition to his wife and sons, Christian’s survivors include his parents James and Lis Hoveland of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, and his brother Jonathan Hoveland, wife Heather, and sons Finn and Whit of Charlotte, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Christian’s name to The Trustees of Reservations (thetrustees.org), a conservation organization dear to Christian and his family that preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home at 255 9th Street, Brooklyn, New York 11215. At the request of his immediate family, Christian’s memorial service is private for family only. The Hoveland Family thanks you for your understanding during this difficult time.
